Lowell Police Department News Release:
On December 9th, 2013, at approximately 8:09 a.m, the Lowell Police Department was dispatched to the area of Driftwood Drive and Driftwood Circle regarding a citizen observing a suspicious male carrying a backpack. The citizen continued to watch the male until he began to run away from the area. Sgt. Todd Angerman responded to the scene and began to track the male following his shoe prints in the fresh snow. The shoe prints were followed through several backyards and led to an address in the 600 block of Blackwood Drive where Phillip Paul Miley (31) of Lowell, was taken into custody. A search warrant was obtained for the residence in the 600 block of Blackwood Drive and for Miley's former residence in the 1500 block of Northwood Drive. Numerous pieces of property that were reported stolen in previous burglaries were seized and later returned to their owners. Miley later was interviewed by Detective David Lee where he confessed to committing (6) recent area burglaries that were reported in the 600 block of Blackwood Drive, the 300 block of Joe Martin Road, the 700 block of Joe Martin Road, the 1600 block of Driftwood Drive, and (2) in the 500 block of Northwood Drive.
On December 10th, 2013, Detective Lee filed the following charges against Miley:
6 counts Burglary (B) Felony
1 count Possession of Marijuana (D) Felony
Miley is currently incarcerated at the Lake County Jail where he is being held without bond.
This case is an example of an alert citizen and good police work leading to the apprehension of a menace to the town. Without the public's support, these types of property crimes are very difficult to solve....
