Two men were taken into custody on Wednesday after gunfire rang out as students were getting off their school bus in the three-hundred block of Vail Street in Michigan City. Authorities report there were two groups on each side of the street involved in the incident that occurred around 3pm. No injuries were reported and no homes or vehicles were hit by the gunfire, which police estimate lasted anywhere from 20 to 30 seconds. Michigan City Police report 21 year old Alexander Newton and 19 year old Isaac Newton were apprehended after a brief foot-chase and were both being held for resisting law enforcement, while the 21 year old was also charged with criminal recklessness and carrying a handgun without a permit. The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
