An 18 year old man wanted in connection to a shooting on Sunday morning was apprehended later that same day during a stop for a traffic infraction. Gary Police Public Information Officer Corp. Gabrielle King says, just before 10am on Sunday, officers responded to a call for a man down at 25th Avenue and Madison Street. The victim, 19 year old Richard Hawkins, told officers he was shot in the 24-hundred block of Madison and that 18 year old Arnell Davis had shot him.
Corp. King says, just before 8pm Sunday night, an officer witnessed a vehicle commit a traffic infraction in the 51-hundred block of Georgia Street and a stop was made. Corp. King says the driver, a 20 year old man, was found to have an active Merrillville warrant and he was placed under arrest, and one of the four passengers in the vehicle identified himself as 18 year old Arnell Davis, whose name officers remembered from the shooting incident earlier that day. Davis was arrested on a probable cause caharge of attempted murder and both he and the driver were then taken into custody.
