A Senior Trooper with the Indiana State Police Lowell Post was recognized last week at a conference in Tennessee with an award for having the largest seizure of Khat in the US in 2013. State Police report Aaron Trammel stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on southbound I-65, two miles south of the Winamac/Fair Oaks exit, in late January 2013.
Trammel's K-9 alerted on the vehicle and a search of the trunk revealed 40 pounds of Khat, a flowing plant grown in the Horn of Africa that is chewed like tobacco for a stimulant-euphoric effect.
