A house fire in Michigan City this morning resulted in one fatality. Michigan City Fire Department Public Information Officer Mark Baker told the Region News Team a friend of the tenant's who were renting the home, in the 200 block of Green Street, died as a result of the fire. LaPorte County Chief Deputy Coroner Mark Huffman says 40 year old Scott Nix died as a result of smoke inhalation and toxicology result are pending. Baker says the cause of the fire is undetermined and remains under investigation. Firefighters received the call after 3am and the house received medium to heavy damage due to the fire, which also caused minor damage to a neighbor's home.
