Police-Involved Shooting in Hobart

In Hobart, a police-involved shooting is under investigation. Hobart Police say during the late night hours Thursday night, a Hobart Police officer observed a shooting take place between two vehicles in the 16-hundred block of East 62nd Avenue, near the Hobart-Merrillville border. Authorities say the officer found an individual in one of the vehicles had a gunshot wound. Officers went to investigate the second vehicle, which had driven off the road, officials say, and police say officers were fired upon and returned fire, striking the offender. Both subjects were reported to be in critical condition. The Hobart Police Department released a statement saying a preliminary administrative review of the incident revealed no wrongdoing by officers. The Lake County Sheriffs Department is investigating the entire incident, as per standard procedure. Hobart and Lake County Sheriffs Police both say there will be no further comment at this time as the incident is under investigation.
