On Friday, the School City of East Chicago Board approved offering a five-year contract to 75 year old Youssef Yomtoov to be their next superintendent. Yomtoov, who has been working as a consultant in Illinois for the last five-years, has 50 years of experience in education and previously held the position of superintendent at Hawthorn District 73 in Vernon Hills, Illinois, for 13 years, and spent seven-years as superintendent at Willow Run Schools in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Contract details are still being hashed out but he is anticipated to start effective July 1st. Yomtoov replaces Michael Harding, who retired earlier this year. Mary Dywan will continue as interim superintendent until the end of the month.
