Merrillville-based Northern Indiana Public Service Company is warning customers to beware of a scam circulating around the country. ABC News reports phone calls, text messages, and flyers offering to pay off your utility bills are using President Obama's name suggesting there's a-thousand dollars from a government-funded program to pay off your utility bills. NIPSCO spokesman Nick Meyer told us they know about roughly a dozen instances involving customers of their own. Meyer says customers looking for assistance in paying utility bills should call NIPSCO for information. Counting both electric and natural gas, NIPSCO has about a million customers across its service territory.
