Drought, Heat Impact Fish in Indiana

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is seeing the impact of the extended drought on aquatic life... spokesman Phil Bloom says within about the past week they've started to get reports of isolated fish die-offs in the state, from natural circumstances -- high heat, low water, and depleted oxygen. Bloom says the numbers are relatively low right now. One of the reports was near northwest Indiana, from the Tippecanoe River near Winamac, where five Northern Pike were found dead. Bloom says Northern Pike in particular are being affected -- they are kind of in the southern part of their native range in northern Indiana, and are more sensitive to warm temperatures than other species.
