Indiana State Police say a seven-year-old Cincinnati boy was ejected from an SUV then trapped under it in a rollover crash just before 10-o'clock Sunday morning on I-65 in Jasper County, five miles south of the Rensselaer exit. Troopers say the child was eventually airlifted to Lafayette.  A news release said the preliminary investigation showed the vehicle hit a tire tread, lost control, and overcorrected, before the SUV rolled into the median, coming to rest on its side. The driver  and two others in the SUV were also taken to a hospital.
Indiana State Police say the driver advised both children in the vehicle were wearing seat belt although facts from the crash show if they were they could not be wearing them properly. A 13-year-old girl in the back seat was partially ejected out the back passenger side window, police say. Troopers also say there was no child restraint system in the vehicle.  Authorities say both adults in the front seat were wearing their seat belt.
The Indiana State Police remind parents that all children less than eight-years old must be properly fastened and restrained in a child restraint system. Children between eight and sixteen must be properly fastened and restrained by a child restraint system or safety belt.
