The latest official report says we're pretty much all out of the drought in northwest Indiana and the National Weather Service says the remnants of Hurricane Isaac had a lot to do with it. The latest US Drought Monitor shows most of our local counties, including all of Lake, Porter, LaPorte, Newton and Jasper, have improved to “abnormally dry”, with significant rainfall having fallen across the driest areas of the state, to our south and southwest.. severe drought still continues though over much of the lower half of indiana... but none of the state is now in the highest categories of extreme and exceptional drought.
