Six Indiana State Police troopers from the Lowell Post were recently recognized in Indianapolis at a ceremony honoring those around the state for their dedication to service, bravery, and devotion. Sergeant Ann Wojas, Public Information Officer with the ISP, says Trooper Carl Hall received the Meritorious Service Award for helping a homeless individual who was having a seizure at Purdue Calumet, and finding a shelter for the person. Wojas says Corporal Dan Becker and Corporal Fred Blohm both received the Life Saving Award; Becker for his role in helping free four occupants of a burning SUV, and Blohm for applying direct pressure to the life-threatening wound of a victim of a rollover crash until emergency crews arrived. She says Trooper Brian Rubesha won the District Life Award, which is given to the top OWI enforcement trooper for each of the 14 state police posts, of which he had 147, ranking him third overall in the state, which in-turn also netted him the 2011 Life Award Top Five. The Trooper of the District award went to Trooper Josh Roa, for performing beyond normal expectations, and Master Trooper Jason Carmin taking the 2011 Outstanding Investigation of the Year award for his work in recovering 1.8 million dollars and 18 kilos of cocaine, busting up a group suspected of being associated with a major drug cartel in Roselawn.
