Coast Gd Participates in SS Eastland Memorial

Petty Officer 3rd Class Brennen Coles (left) and Seaman Nicholas Konopka of Coast Guard Station Calumet Harbor place a bouquet of flowers in the Chicago River Wednesday during a ceremony marking the 98th anniversary of the SS Eastland disaster, one of the worst maritime disasters in US history. The SS Eastland capsized on the river in 1915 with more than 2,500 onboard. Eight-hundred-forty-four people perished.
