FL Chemical Company Producing Ethanol from Yard Waste

A national chemical company out of Florida has announced it is producing commercial-scale ethanol using yard and plant waste at its Vero Beach, Florida plant. The company says by sometime in 2014, they plan to start using other garbage in the ethanol process. Powers Energy, which holds the Indiana license for that company's trash-to-ethanol technology, had proposed building a 300-million dollar trash-to-ethanol plant in Schneider, but that 2008 contract was canceled several months ago by the Lake County Solid Waste Management District after Powers failed to secure and prove funding. Published reports say the district stands by its decision, despite the announcement.
