Cause of Death Released for Woman Who Drove into Lake

Preliminary autopsy results of the 83 year old Valparaiso woman who died at an area hospital after being pulled from her vehicle after it went into Lake George Wednesday indicated she died from complications of a pre-existing medical condition. The Lake County Coroners Office reported Shirley Gronlund was pronounced dead about four hours after her vehicle entered the lake, near Front Street, behind the Hobart branch of the Lake County Public Library.
Hobart Police Public Information Officer Sgt. Jeremy Ogden says officers were dispatched to the scene around 3pm and a witness informed them the woman was driving on Cleveland Avenue when she reportedly struck something, along her way towards the downtown area of Hobart. Once in the downtown area, the woman continued down Center Street and ultimately drove into the boardwalk area, through a guardrail and into the lake where her vehicle slowly submerged.
