BP Pipeline Repairs in Munster

BP crews were working behind some townhomes near Apple Blossom Court and Windfield Drive north of Main Street in Munster Wednesday night to repair a pipeline. BP Spokesman Scott Dean says the 16-inch line, which had been out of service for a maintenance cycle, was being stress tested with high-pressure water when they found a failure point yesterday.  Dean says the water used in the testing is dyed green so it can be differentiated from other water, like rainfall, and the dye is similar to what's used when the Chicago River is dyed green for St. Patrick's Day. Officials say some of the water went into a nearby pond. Water from the pond was tested and Dean says no hydrocarbon was found; hydrocarbon is a component of crude oil.  Dean says the company will perform restorations to lawns and shrubs dug up during repairs.
