“I’M OFF THE CLOCK”: DAUGHTRY DITCHES FOX & FRIENDS ATTEMPT TO SING “MY COUNTRY TIS OF THEE”
Former American Idol finalist Chris Daughtry stepped in a pile of outrage this weekend when he awkwardly ditched a Fox & Friends attempt to sing “My Country, ‘Tis of Thee” during the morning show’s after-show. Friday morning was the 70th anniversary of the D-Day attacks, and so F&F host Steve Doocy suggested Daughtry (whose band was off-stage) sing a patriotic tune with the hosts, including Anna Kooiman, Clayton Morris, and Heather Childers. Caught off-guard by the request, Daughtry joked that he is “off the clock,” which prompted some laughter and then an awkward pause in which the hosts fiddled around and seemingly tried to figure out what to do with themselves. Childers grabbed a tambourine and declared it time to sing “My Country,” with Kooiman on lead. Daughtry turned to leave, telling the co-hosts they’ve “opened a can of worms,” and that “this is where I bail.” After considerable backlash, Daughtry took to his YouTube page to apologize, explaining that he was caught unprepared by the “patriotic song” request and was worried that had he messed up the lyrics or sang poorly, there would be even worse backlash than the one he faces now.Â
The 24-year-old country singer, who has topped DoSomething.org's most charitable celebrities list for the last two years, was again spreading her generosity this week. The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia announced that the Pennsylvania native donated $50,000 to the facility for music-themed initiatives — including a music studio on wheels — that teens in treatment at CHOP's Cancer Center can utilize. The monetary donation alone deserves accolades, but, once again, Swift also proved to be generous with her time. The Grammy winner, who's currently on tour in Asia, also visited several of the patients at CHOP. Photos from her hospital visit show the star wearing her signature red lipstick and meeting with a few of the teens. In one shot, she was leaning sweetly touching heads with a young woman and another was of Swift at the bedside of another girl, signing an autograph.
