The Region's residents continue to remove fallen limbs and trees left behind when severe thunderstorms with winds in excess of 60 mph moved through the area yesterday around lunchtime. The storm caused up to 34-thousand customers loose power while repair crews scrambled to affected areas. Trees were reported down in Crown Point area, Michigan City, downtown and southern parts of Valparaiso and the Kouts area. Public Information officer, Sgt. Mike Grennes said a woman suffered minor injuries when a large tree fell on her SUV on Wayne at Chicago Streets. Also a large tree blocked Smoke Road just south of Division. Another round of severe thunderstorms overnight also brought high winds and much needed fall to Northwest Indiana, with wind speeds clocked at 43 mph in Burns Harbor.
