COPS Ride Arrives in Terre Haute

Participants in the tenth annual COPS Cycling for Survivors bicycle ride left Kentland in northwest Indiana Sunday arriving 96-miles later in Terre Haute last night. They're midway thru their thousand-mile journey around the perimeter of the state to raise funds for surviving family members of officers killed in the line of duty thru the Indiana chapter of concerns of police survivors.  Retired Lake County Police Chief Gary Martin and Indiana State Police Lt. Gary Dudley gave their lives in the line of duty taking part in the ride in August 2006 when a box truck crashed into the rear of a support truck following the cyclists.  This year the cyclists are recognizing the sacrifice madeby Terre Haute Police Officer Brent Daniel Long, who was shot and killed on July 11, 2011, as he and other officers served a felony warrant at a house in Terre Haute. Brent’s canine “Shadow” was also shot but survived. Officer Long had served with the Terre Haute Police Department for six years. He is survived by his wife and two children.
