Revenue Ridership Up on S Shore RR

NICTD logo Revenue and ridership has increased on the South Shore Commuter Railroad. Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District General Manager Gerald Hanas attributed the increase in revenue due to a five-percent fare increase that was enacted back in February, which followed Metra's fare increase. Officials reported during last week's meeting in Chesterton that ridership has stabilized, from its prior drop, and they are now seeing an increase in net revenue, up around 900-thousand dollars from the previous year, or seven-point-six percent, with a recommendation to the Board that they continue with small cost-of-living adjustments as opposed to higher fare increases of 20-to-30 percent. From January through August of this year, ridership is up by nearly 12-thousand, or a half-percent.
