Lake County Police have released additional information about an accident involving a church van filled mostly with teenagers Thursday night. Police say officers were dispatched shortly after 8:30 to northbound Cline Avenue and the Gary Avenue exit ramp, where they say a van registered to the First Baptist Church of Hammond failed to negotiate the exit ramp, collided with the steel guardrail, and rolled over sideways several times before coming to rest at the bottom of a steep ravine adjacent to the ramp. A 17-year-old boy was ejected and flown to a Chicago-area medical center. The 26-year-old driver was treated for multiple injuries at a local hospital. The other ten passengers, police say, ranging in age from 15 to 18 were transported to several area hospitals, and all but two were treated and released. Lake County Police say the van was returning to Hammond from a basketball game at Hyles Anderson College in Crown Point earlier in the evening. The crash remains under investigation.
