Tornado and Severe Weather

Growing up, one of my Biggest fears was The threat and overall destruction of a Tornado. And, growing up in Central Indiana I saw my fare share of Severe Weather, and a Nado or two. Albeit smaller F1 or F2 level. Still, scary. So, in the wake of all of the Severe Storms that we have seen here lately along the South Shore. I wanted to share this tornado and severe weather packet with you. And as always stayed tuned to Z 107.1 for continuous storm coverage.Stay safe out there. http://www.nws.noaa.gov/om/brochures/ttl.pdf

LET THE BIDDING WAR BEGIN, Jessica Alba is a Mommy
I wonder which magazine will win the bid war on "first pics" of Jessica Alba's new baby. The actress and husband Cash Warren welcome a daughter Monday, June 9, 2008. Honor Marie Warren was born June 7 in Los Angeles. Or is she even on that level of popularity? I know that most of the big publications have been spending alot of dough trying to get the "Rights" to Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitts twins. I believe that People won, not sure though. Anyone hear anything.

Alba and Warren quietly wed on May 19.

LUKE MENARD HAS CANCER

Luke Menard, an "American Idol" finalist, has been diagnosed with cancer.

Handsome "American Idol" finalist Luke Menard has been diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma (a cancer of the immune system), according to a report in CBS News.

The network says a rep from the singer's group, Chapter 6, has confirmed the disease, considered one of the most curable forms of cancer.

"Luke had a lingering cough and was having trouble breathing deeply, so he went to the doctor to have it checked out," Jane Victor, a spokesman for Chapter 6 told CBS News. "The suspicion was walking pneumonia. But after a chest X-ray doctors saw a mass and did more testing, which is what led to the stage II Hodgkin diagnosis."

How did the thumbs up gesture start?
Have you ever wonder how the giving thumbs up or down, started? Well, I found this really cool article that I would like to share with you. The gesture, for better or worse, has long breathed life or death into major events.

Death to gladiators

The thumbs-up gesture has its roots in ancient Rome, where gladiators would literally live or die by it. Pollice verso is the Latin term for the gesture, meaning "with a turned thumb."

"It was a hand gesture that was used by the crowd to say if the gladiator should live or die after a fight," explains Lisa Slattery Rashotte, a sociologist at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte.

The last thing a sweaty sportsman wanted was a thumbs-up. While in modern times it has a positive meaning, back then it meant "get him out of here," or death, while a concealed thumb (considered thumbs-down) meant the gladiator lived.
